Conference "Kabbalah and Modernity"

  • 2007-07-04
  • 2007-07-05
  • Amsterdam, The Netherlands
This international conference, hosted by the Center for the History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents at the University of Amsterdam, brings together leading scholars, in order to break new ground for a better understanding and conceptualization of the role of Kabbalah in modern religious, intellectual, and political discourse. The conference is organized around four thematic fields. Although these fields intersect in many ways, each of them highlights a separate aspect of Kabbalah vis-à-vis modernity: (1) Kabbalah, Modernity, and Scholarship; (2) Romantic and Esoteric Readings of Kabbalah; (3) Kabbalah and Politics: Neo-Romanticism, Religious Zionism, and Jewish Nationalism; (4) Modern Kabbalistic Schools. Featured Speakers include: Moshe Idel, Eric Jacobson, Kocku von Stuckrad, Elliot Wolfson, Paul B. Fenton, Jean-Pierre Brach, Konstantin Burmistrov, Giulio Busi, Wouter J. Hanegraaff, Dorit Harten-Levitee, Andreas B. Kilcher, Marco Pasi, Amnon Raz Krakozkin, Hans G. Kippenberg, Shlomo Berger, Boaz Huss, Shaul Magid, Jonatan Meir, Jody Myers, and Avriel Bar-Levav.
